PSN may not be back till end of May

A spokesperson for Sony Japan has said that the PlayStation Network may not return to full functionality until the end of the month following repeated attacks on Sony's online services.

Sony first took PSN offline on April 20th, shortly after it found out that the system had been compromised by an unknown party. Later attacks have bought the matter to Sony Online Entertainment's other services too.

PSN was originally supposed to have been restored on 3rd May, but that plan went out the window when the second SOE attacks were discovered.

Talking to Bloomberg today, a Sony spokesperson said that the company was still in the process of adopting improved security systems and was planning to restore PSN to full functionality by 31st May.

If Sony holds to that new date then PSN will have been offline for a total of 41 days.

Poor show from Sony I wonder howmany patrons jumped ship to Microshaft during this possible 40 day period. The effect of this could be devastating for Sony but the real impact is felt by us the consumer with the likes of Mortal Kombat, Portal 2, Operation Flashpoint RR and the coming LA Noire and Brink all unplayable online how frustrating 8(

LA Noire should be ok, shouldn't it? Unless it needs account verification. It is a single player only as far as I'm aware.

The end of May is for everything, the entire PSN to be up, Sony have stated all along they'd be getting the mp side up sooner. I'm certainly hoping it'll be this weekend as I doubt Sony can afford another AAA title in Brink been unplayable online upon release. If they do miss this weekend you have to wonder if some developers might sue Sony for loss of sales. :confused:

On a brighter side I've now Platinumed two games while PSN has been down. :cool:

At least there not rushing and are making sure it's 100% before it goes back up.I think more people would be angry if they put it up then it got hacked again.Fingers crossed when it does come back up it'll be better.
The only thing that's annoying me is i wanted to get to play some socom 4 online before Brink comes out but never mind i'll play the hell outta brink till it's up and running again.
